Day 2 of our vacation. We were able to slow down and enjoy South Dakota.
We drove through the Badlands National Park. Rather than pay the $15 entrance fee we purchased the National Park Pass for $80 which will give us entrance to other National Parks, sites, etc. We drove all day, but much slower as we toured Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, and Black Hills.
Reading/Listening – Book 2 of Otori.
Meals – Apples dipped in peanut butter and honey, snacks in truck for lunch, Aro cafe in Sundance, SD.
We took lots of pictures of Mt. Rushmore, but then the memory card in our old Sony DSC717 camera failed. But, they would look no different than the 100’s of Mt Rushmore pictures that you can find on the web. It was kind of cool to see it up close, but a little underwhelming compared to the other beautiful scenery we drove through today. The museum and film were educational.
We started a one month vacation. We plan to drive through South Dakota, stay at Yellowstone 4 nights, drive through Montana and Idaho, and stay at Seattle for 4 nights. Josiah will attend the Pax gaming conference in Seattle then fly home. We will then slow down through Oregon, then go home through northern California, Utah, and Colorado.
First we took Josiah to Maple Woods where he attended his Calculus class. On the first day we drove 658 miles – to get up to South Dakota and half way across it. Then for the next couple of days we can slow down a little to see the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, and Black Hills.
We stayed at the Oasis campground in Chamberlain, SD, just west of the MO river in South Dakota.
